ARTISTS TO KNOW

The Foundation will select two artists about whom more should be known: an historical artist that demonstrates the traditional philosophy and techniques and should be appreciated and a contemporary artist that demonstrates both talent and potential who should be promoted and supported

Historical Artist

Everett Gee Jackson
A diversified artist, Alfred Frankenstein referred to him as "one of the finest craftsmen of the lithograph working on this coast. In his paintings, with their monumental figures occupying a space devoid of time and motion, viewers sense an intellectual and esoteric quality. Mr. Jackson has earned an enviable reputation as an outstanding illustrator.

Contemporary Artist

Joan Harrison
Ms. Harrison has been building her reputation as a painter of home, business and pet portraits. Although she has begun to use photographic sources for her portraits, she chooses the plein-air approach for her landscapes and still lifes.

The Amity Art Foundation promotes, encourages, and supports the traditions of printmaking of the 20's, 30's and 40's.

The Foundation sponsors a variety of Programs including paper making in Costa Rica, a portfolio exchange for university art students and program involving women printmakers and fine art printing paper from Bhutan. We also support emerging artists through showings at the Oak Lane Gallery.

The Foundation's collection includes the work of Ann Chernow, Bruce Muirhead, Art Werger and others, including a recently acquired collection of prints by John Sloan.
